Hungarian Túrófánk Recipe

Ingredients (15–20 pieces)

  • 250 g (1 cup) cottage cheese (dry curd/túró if possible)
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Grated zest of 1 lemon
  • 150 g (1¼ cups) flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

1️⃣ In a bowl, mix cottage cheese, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest.

2️⃣ In another bowl combine flour, baking powder, and salt.

3️⃣ Add dry ingredients to wet mixture and stir until combined.
(Dough will be soft and slightly sticky.)

4️⃣ Heat oil to 170–180°C (340–350°F).

5️⃣ With a spoon or wet hands, form small balls.

6️⃣ Fry in batches until golden brown (3–4 minutes), turning often.

7️⃣ Remove and drain on paper towels.

8️⃣ Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
