Hungarian Lángos Recipe

Ingredients (6–8 pieces)

  • 500 g (4 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 250 ml (1 cup) warm milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Oil for frying

Topping:

  • 200 g (1 cup) sour cream
  • 150–200 g (1–2 cups) grated cheese (Edam, Gouda, or mozzarella)
  • 2 cloves garlic (optional)

Instructions

1️⃣ Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2️⃣ In a bowl mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and oil.

3️⃣ Knead until smooth and elastic (about 8–10 minutes).

4️⃣ Cover and let rise 1 hour until doubled.

5️⃣ Divide into balls. Flatten each into a round disc (about 1 cm thick).

6️⃣ Fry in hot oil (170–180°C / 340–350°F) until golden on both sides.

7️⃣ Drain on paper towels.

8️⃣ Spread with sour cream and top with grated cheese.
Optional: Rub with garlic before adding sour cream.
