
Almás Pite is a classic dessert from Hungary — buttery pastry layers filled with cinnamon-spiced apples and baked until golden. It’s simple, comforting, and perfect with coffee or tea.
📝 Ingredients
🥧 Dough
- 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200 g) sugar
- 1 cup (225 g) cold butter, cubed
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 2–3 tablespoons sour cream (if needed)
🍎 Apple Filling
- 5–6 large apples, peeled and grated
- ½ cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs (to absorb moisture)
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Dough
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
- Add egg and mix into a dough.
- If dry, add sour cream 1 tablespoon at a time.
- Divide dough into two portions and chill 30 minutes.
2️⃣ Prepare the Filling
- Grate apples and squeeze out excess juice.
- Mix with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
3️⃣ Assemble
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out one dough portion and place in a greased baking pan.
- Sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly over dough.
- Spread apple filling on top.
- Roll out second dough and place over apples.
- Prick top with a fork.
4️⃣ Bake
- Bake 35–40 minutes until golden.
- Cool completely before slicing.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
