📝 Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons oil or lard
- 2 medium onions, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds (optional)
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 potatoes, diced
- 1 tomato, chopped (or ½ cup canned tomatoes)
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 4 cups beef broth
- Salt and black pepper to taste

- Sauté the onions
Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onions and cook until soft and translucent. - Add paprika
Remove pot from heat briefly and stir in the sweet paprika (this prevents burning and keeps flavor rich). - Brown the beef
Add beef cubes and garlic. Return to heat and cook until meat is lightly browned. - Season & build flavor
Stir in caraway seeds, salt, pepper, tomato, and bell pepper. - Simmer
Pour in beef broth. Cover and simmer on low heat for about 60–75 minutes until beef starts to become tender. - Add vegetables
Stir in carrots and potatoes. Continue cooking for another 20–30 minutes until vegetables and meat are tender. - Serve
Adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot with crusty bread.
