Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Oil for frying

Toppings (classic):

  • Sour cream
  • Grated cheese

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture, warm water, and oil.
  3. Knead until smooth and soft (about 5–7 minutes).
  4. Cover and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
  5. Divide dough into 4 pieces. Shape each into a flat round (about ½ inch thick).
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan. Fry each piece 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  7. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Rub with garlic water, spread sour cream, and sprinkle with cheese. Serve warm.
