
🇭🇺 Káposztás Tészta (Hungarian Cabbage and Pasta)
Ingredients
- 12 oz (350g) egg noodles (wide noodles)
- 1 small head green cabbage (about 2 lbs / 900g), finely shredded
- 3 tablespoons oil or lard
- 1–2 tablespoons sugar (optional, for caramelizing)
- 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Cook egg noodles in salted water according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat oil or lard in a large pan. Add shredded cabbage and salt.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 15–20 minutes until cabbage softens and begins to brown.
- If making the slightly sweet version, sprinkle sugar over cabbage and continue cooking until lightly caramelized.
- Add black pepper generously (traditional Hungarian style is pepper-forward).
- Toss cooked noodles with the cabbage mixture until well combined and heated through.
Serve hot.
