Ingredients
- 12–14 sour cabbage leaves
- 1 lb (450 g) ground pork
- ½ cup uncooked rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1½ tsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried marjoram
- 1 egg
- 1 cup sauerkraut (for layering)
- 4 cups tomato juice or crushed tomatoes
- 1 smoked sausage (optional)
Instructions
- Mix ground pork, rice, onion, garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, marjoram, and egg.
- Place filling on each cabbage leaf. Fold sides in and roll tightly.
- Layer sauerkraut on bottom of pot. Add cabbage rolls seam-side down.
- Add sliced smoked sausage between layers (optional).
- Pour tomato juice over rolls. Add water if needed to just cover.
- Cover and simmer on low for 1½–2 hours.
- Serve hot with sour cream.
