Hungarian Stuffed Peppers (Töltött Paprika) – Recipe Only

Ingredients:

  • 6–8 bell peppers, tops removed and seeded
  • 500 g ground pork or pork & beef mix
  • 1/2 cup rice, rinsed
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sweet Hungarian paprika

Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 2 cups tomato passata or crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups water or broth
  • Sugar, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Mix ground meat, rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  2. Stuff peppers with meat mixture; do not overfill.
  3. Heat oil in a pot, stir in flour, then paprika.
  4. Add tomato passata and water, season lightly and add a pinch of sugar.
  5. Place stuffed peppers into sauce.
  6. Simmer gently, covered, 45–60 minutes until peppers and filling are cooked.
  7. Adjust seasoning and serve hot.
