Hungarian Goulash

Hungarian Goulash (Gulyás) – Recipe Only

Ingredients:

  • 800 g beef (shank or chuck), cubed
  • 3 tbsp oil or lard
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 potatoes, cubed
  • 6 cups water or beef broth

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pot, sauté onions until soft.
  2. Remove from heat, stir in paprika.
  3. Add beef, salt, pepper, garlic, caraway seeds, tomato, and green pepper.
  4. Cover and simmer gently until beef starts to soften.
  5. Add water or broth and carrots; cook about 1 hour.
  6. Add potatoes and cook until tender.
  7. Adjust seasoning and serve hot.
