Szilvásgombóc (Hungarian Plum Dumplings) – Recipe Only

Ingredients – Dough:

  • 500 g potatoes, peeled and boiled
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Pinch of salt

Ingredients – Filling:

  • 10–12 small plums
  • Sugar cubes or granulated sugar
  • Ground cinnamon

Ingredients – Coating:

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • Powdered sugar (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Mash potatoes until smooth; let cool.
  2. Mix in egg, salt, and flour to form a soft dough.
  3. Pit plums, fill each with sugar and a pinch of cinnamon.
  4. Divide dough, flatten pieces, wrap around plums, seal well.
  5. Boil dumplings in salted water until they float, then cook 2–3 more minutes.
  6. Toast breadcrumbs in butter until golden.
  7. Roll cooked dumplings in breadcrumbs.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm.
