Almás Pite (Hungarian Apple Cake) – Recipe Only

Ingredients – Dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter, cold
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt

Ingredients – Apple Filling:

  • 6–7 apples, peeled and grated
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Rub in cold butter until crumbly.
  2. Add eggs and knead into a soft dough. Divide into two parts.
  3. Roll out one part and place in a greased baking pan.
  4. Squeeze excess juice from apples, then mix with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  5. Spread apple filling evenly over dough.
  6. Roll out second dough and place on top.
  7. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 40–45 minutes until golden.
  8. Cool completely, dust with powdered sugar, slice, and serve.
