Zserbó Szelet (Hungarian Gerbeaud Slice) – Recipe Only

Ingredients – Dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter, cold
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup milk, lukewarm
  • 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
  • Pinch of salt

Ingredients – Filling:

  • 1 1/2 cups ground walnuts
  • 3/4 cup apricot jam
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Ingredients – Chocolate Glaze:

  • 100 g dark chocolate
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 tsp sugar; let foam.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, salt, and butter until crumbly.
  3. Add egg yolks and yeast mixture; knead into soft dough.
  4. Divide dough into 3 equal parts.
  5. Roll first layer into a baking pan. Spread half the jam, sprinkle half the walnuts mixed with sugar.
  6. Add second dough layer; repeat filling.
  7. Cover with third dough layer.
  8. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 35–40 minutes until golden. Cool completely.
  9. Melt chocolate with butter, spread on top. Let set, then slice.
