Hungarian Kiffles

Ingredients

Dough

  • 250 g (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened
  • 200 g (1 cup) sour cream
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Filling (choose one)

Walnut filling

  • 1 cup finely ground walnuts
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1–2 tbsp milk

OR Jam filling

  • Thick apricot or raspberry jam

For coating

  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Make the dough
    Mix butter, sour cream, vanilla, and salt.
    Add flour gradually until soft dough forms.
    Chill 1 hour.
  2. Prepare filling
    Mix walnuts, sugar, cinnamon, and milk to a spreadable paste.
  3. Shape kiffles
    Roll dough thin. Cut into triangles.
    Add filling or jam at wide end and roll into crescents.
  4. Bake
    180°C / 350°F for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden.
  5. Finish
    Roll warm cookies in powdered sugar.

  • Use very thin dough for the flakiest texture
  • Do not overfill
