
Vanilla Kifli Cookies (Vaníliás Kifli)
Ingredients (Makes about 30–35 cookies)
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (225 g) cold butter, cubed
- ½ cup (60 g) ground almonds or walnuts
- ½ cup (60 g) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract or 1 packet vanilla sugar
- Pinch of salt
For Coating
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 packet vanilla sugar or 1 tsp vanilla powder
Instructions
- Prepare Dough
Mix flour, ground nuts, powdered sugar, and salt.
Cut in cold butter and add vanilla.
Knead quickly into a smooth dough. - Chill
Wrap dough and refrigerate 30–60 minutes. - Shape Cookies
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Take small pieces of dough, roll into short logs, and bend into crescent (kifli) shapes. - Bake
Place on lined baking sheet.
Bake 12–15 minutes until set but still pale. - Coat
While warm, gently roll cookies in vanilla sugar mixture.
Traditional Tips
- Do not overbake—kifli must stay light.
- Handle warm cookies carefully; they are very delicate.
- Flavor improves the next day.
