🍪 Hungarian Shortbread (Omlós Teasütemény)

🛒 Ingredients

  • 250 g (1 cup + 2 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
  • 100 g (½ cup) powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 300 g (2½ cups) all-purpose flour
  • Pinch of salt

  • Apricot or plum jam
  • Ground walnuts
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

  1. Cream butter & sugar
    In a bowl, beat butter and powdered sugar until light and smooth.
  2. Add egg yolk
    Mix in egg yolk and vanilla until fully combined.
  3. Form the dough
    Add flour and salt.
    Mix gently just until a soft dough forms.
    Do not overmix.
  4. Chill
    Wrap dough and refrigerate 30 minutes (important for shape).
  5. Shape cookies
    Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
    Roll dough to about ¼ inch (6 mm) thickness.
