🇭🇺 Lecsó – Hungarian Pepper & Tomato Stew (Recipe Only)
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 3–4 Hungarian wax peppers (or bell peppers), sliced
- 3 ripe tomatoes, chopped (or 1½ cups canned tomatoes)
- 1 tsp salt (to taste)
- Black pepper, to taste
- Optional additions: sliced sausage (kolbász), eggs, or rice
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and cook onion until soft.
- Remove from heat, add paprika, and stir quickly.
- Return to heat, add peppers and cook 5 minutes.
- Add tomatoes, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer uncovered 20–30 minutes until soft and juicy.
- Add sausage or eggs if using, cook until done, and serve.
