Hungarian Kifli Cookies (Vaníliás Kifli) 🇭🇺🌙

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup (60 g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (120 g) finely ground walnuts (or almonds)
  • Pinch of salt

For Coating

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar (or 1 tsp vanilla)

Instructions

  1. Make the dough
    • Cream butter and powdered sugar until light.
    • Mix in vanilla and salt.
    • Add flour and ground nuts. Mix until soft dough forms.
  2. Shape
    • Take small pieces and roll into crescents (kifli shape).
  3. Bake
    • Bake at 170°C / 340°F for 12–15 minutes until just set (not brown).
  4. Coat
    • While warm, gently roll cookies in powdered sugar mixed with vanilla sugar.
  5. Cool
    • Let cool completely before serving.
