
🇹🇷 Turkish Bread (Ekmek)
Ingredients
- 3½ cups (440 g) all-purpose flour
- 1½ tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2¼ tsp (7 g) instant yeast
- 1¼ cups warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Topping (optional)
- Sesame seeds or nigella seeds
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add olive oil and salt. Gradually mix in flour to form a soft dough.
- Knead 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
- Divide dough into 2 loaves. Shape round or oval and place on a lined baking tray.
- Cover and rest 20 minutes.
- Brush with water, sprinkle seeds if using, and score lightly.
- Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding.
- Cool slightly before slicing.
