
🍗 Southern Fried Chicken Batter
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Wet Batter
- 1½ cups buttermilk
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne.
- In another bowl, whisk buttermilk and egg.
- Dip chicken pieces into the buttermilk mixture, then coat well in the seasoned flour.
- For extra crunch, dip again in buttermilk and flour.
- Fry in 350°F (175°C) oil for 12–15 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Drain on a rack and rest 5 minutes before serving.

- Let coated chicken rest 10 minutes before frying
- Add 1 tbsp cornstarch to flour
- Season chicken lightly before battering
