
🇭🇺 Hungarian Kifli Cookies
Vaníliás Kifli
Ingredients
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, cold & cubed
- ½ cup (60 g) finely ground walnuts (or almonds)
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
For Coating
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar (or extra vanilla extract)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix flour, ground nuts, powdered sugar, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter and vanilla until a soft dough forms.
- Take small portions of dough and shape into crescent (kifli) shapes.
- Place on baking sheet and bake 12–15 minutes, just until set (do not brown).
- While warm, gently roll cookies in vanilla sugar–powdered sugar mixture.
- Cool completely.
Tips
- Handle gently—they’re very delicate
- Traditionally made at Christmas 🎄
