🇭🇺 Káposztás Tészta – Hungarian Cabbage Noodles

Ingredients

  • 400 g (14 oz) egg noodles or wide pasta
  • 1 small head green cabbage, finely sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 3–4 tbsp oil, butter, or a mix
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper (generously!)
  • Optional: ½ tsp sugar (for caramelizing)

Instructions

  1. Cook noodles
    Boil in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Caramelize onions & cabbage
    Heat fat in a large pan.
    Sauté onions until soft and lightly golden.
    Add cabbage, salt, and sugar (if using).
    Cook over medium heat 15–20 minutes, stirring often, until soft and caramelized.
  3. Combine
    Add noodles to the pan. Toss well to coat everything evenly.
  4. Season
    Add lots of black pepper and adjust salt.
