- Prepare sponge batter:
Beat egg yolks with half the sugar and vanilla until creamy. - In another bowl, beat egg whites with salt, then gradually add remaining sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Fold egg whites gently into yolks.
- Fold in ground walnuts and flour carefully.
- Bake:
Pour into a greased cake pan.
🔥 Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes. Let cool, then slice into 2–3 layers.
- Prepare syrup (optional):
Heat water and sugar until dissolved. Add rum or lemon juice and cool. - Lightly brush cake layers to keep them moist.
- Make cream:
Beat butter with powdered sugar until fluffy. - Add egg yolks, vanilla, and rum, and mix until smooth.
- Assemble cake:
Spread cream between layers and over the top and sides.
