These tender, nutty cookies from Hungary are buttery, lightly sweet, and melt in your mouth. Often made with ground walnuts, they’re especially popular during the holidays — but delicious anytime!


📝 Ingredients

  • 2 cups finely ground walnuts
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

  • Extra powdered sugar

1️⃣ Prepare the Dough

  1. In a bowl, cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add vanilla and salt.
  3. Stir in ground walnuts.
  4. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
  5. Chill 30–60 minutes.

2️⃣ Shape

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Roll dough into small balls or crescent shapes.
  3. Place on lined baking sheet.

3️⃣ Bake

  • Bake 12–15 minutes until lightly golden (not dark).

4️⃣ Finish

  • While still warm, roll cookies in powdered sugar.
