🇭🇺 Hungarian Gerbeaud Cake (Zserbó Szelet)


👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Activate yeast:
    Mix yeast with lukewarm milk and a little sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  1. Prepare dough:
    In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add butter, egg, and yeast mixture.
  3. Knead into a smooth dough and divide into 3 equal parts.

  1. Prepare filling:
    Mix ground walnuts with sugar and lemon zest.

  1. Assemble layers:
    Roll out one dough portion and place in a baking pan.
  2. Spread half of the apricot jam, then sprinkle half of the walnut mixture.
  3. Repeat with second layer.
  4. Top with the third dough layer.

  1. Bake:
    Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden. Let cool completely.

  1. Add glaze:
    Heat cream and pour over chopped chocolate.
  2. Stir until smooth, then add butter.
  3. Spread glaze evenly over the cake.

  1. Let set before slicing into squares.
