🇩🇪 Family German Chocolate Cake

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Bake the Cake:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch pans.
  2. Cream butter + sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  4. Whisk flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, salt.
  5. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, mixing gently.
  6. Stir in boiling water until smooth (batter will be thin — perfect!).
  7. Divide evenly into pans and bake 25–30 minutes.
  8. Cool completely before frosting.

2️⃣ Make Coconut-Pecan Frosting:

  1. In a saucepan, combine evaporated milk, yolks, sugar, butter.
  2. Cook over medium stirring constantly about 10–12 min until thickened.
  3. Remove from heat — stir in coconut, pecans, vanilla.
  4. Let cool until spreadable.

3️⃣ Assemble:

  1. Place first cake layer → spread a thick layer of coconut-pecan frosting.
  2. Repeat with all layers.
  3. Frost outside with chocolate buttercream (optional but beautiful!).
  4. Add remaining coconut-pecan frosting on top.

✨ Tips for Success:

✅ Use room-temperature ingredients
✅ Don’t overmix once dry ingredients are added
