
Zserbó Szelet (Hungarian Gerbeaud Slice) 🇭🇺🍫
Ingredients
Dough
- 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
- ½ cup (100 g) sugar
- 1 cup (225 g) cold butter, cubed
- 2 large eggs
- 2½ tsp dry yeast
- ½ cup (120 ml) warm milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Filling
- 1½ cups ground walnuts
- ¾ cup apricot jam
Chocolate Glaze
- 200 g dark chocolate
- 2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Activate yeast
- Mix warm milk with yeast and 1 tsp sugar. Rest 5–10 minutes.
- Make dough
- Combine flour, sugar, salt, and butter until crumbly.
- Add eggs, vanilla, and yeast mixture.
- Knead into soft dough. Divide into 3 equal parts.
- Layer
- Roll first dough layer into a greased baking pan.
- Spread half the apricot jam, sprinkle half the walnuts.
- Add second dough layer, remaining jam, and walnuts.
- Top with final dough layer.
- Bake
- Bake at 180°C / 350°F for 35–40 minutes until golden.
- Cool completely.
- Chocolate glaze
- Melt chocolate with butter.
- Spread over cooled cake.
- Set & slice
- Let glaze set before cutting into squares.
