Walnut Cake – Hungarian Recipe

Instructions

1. Make the cake batter

  1. Beat egg yolks + sugar until pale and creamy.
  2. Add butter + vanilla → mix well.
  3. In another bowl, mix flour + baking powder + ground walnuts.
  4. Add dry mixture to yolk mixture.
  5. Whip egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks.
  6. Gently fold egg whites into batter.

2. Bake

  1. Pour into greased, floured cake pan (22–24 cm).
  2. Bake at 170°C / 340°F for 30–35 minutes.
  3. Cool completely.

3. Make the walnut filling (optional)

Mix:

  • Ground walnuts
  • Butter
  • Powdered sugar
  • Vanilla
  • Milk/rum (just enough to make spreadable)

4. Assemble

Slice cake into two layers.
Spread walnut filling inside and/or on top.

Dust with powdered sugar or add chocolate glaze if desired.
