1. Prepare the Base:

  • Heat lard or oil in a large pot.
  • Sauté onions until soft and lightly golden.
  • Remove from heat, stir in paprika (to avoid bitterness).
  • Return to heat and add beef cubes. Sear until browned.

2. Build the Flavor:

  • Add garlic, caraway seeds, tomato, and bell pepper.
  • Stir well and cook for a few minutes.

3. Add Liquid & Simmer:

  • Pour in water/broth to fully cover the meat.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Simmer gently, covered, for 1–1.5 hours until beef is tender.

4. Add Vegetables:

  • Add carrots, parsnips, and potatoes.
  • Simmer for another 20–30 minutes, until vegetables are soft.

5. Finish the Dish:

  • If using, add csipetke (small homemade pinched dumplings) in the last 10 minutes of cooking.
  • Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
