Traditional Hungarian Chicken Paprikash🇭🇺.

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Sauté the Onion:

  • Heat the lard/oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onions and cook until soft and golden.

2. Add Paprika and Chicken:

  • Remove pot from heat, stir in paprika (this prevents bitterness).
  • Return to heat, add chicken pieces, and brown lightly on all sides.

3. Build the Sauce:

  • Add garlic, bell pepper, tomato, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour in the broth/water to just cover the chicken.

4. Simmer Until Tender:

  • Cover and simmer gently for 45–60 minutes, or until chicken is fully cooked and tender.

5. Make It Creamy:

  • In a small bowl, mix flour with sour cream until smooth.
  • Temper with a bit of hot sauce from the pot, then stir the mixture back into the dish.
  • Simmer 5 more minutes to thicken.

🍽️ Serve With:

  • Nokedli (Hungarian dumplings)
  • Buttered egg noodles or mashed potatoes
