Torta della Nonna (“Grandma’s Cake”) is a traditional Italian dessert featuring a buttery shortcrust pastry filled with creamy custard and topped with pine nuts and powdered sugar. It’s a timeless treat that’s elegant, comforting, and absolutely irresistible!
🍪 Ingredients
For the Pastry (Pasta Frolla):
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3 large egg yolks
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1–2 tbsp cold water (if needed)
For the Custard Filling (Crema Pasticcera):
- 2 cups whole milk
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 4 large egg yolks
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract or 1 tsp lemon zest
For Topping:
- 3 tbsp pine nuts
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
