These are Hungarian Walnut Crescent Cookies (Hókifli).

Ingredients

  • 300 g flour
  • 200 g butter (soft)
  • 100 g ground walnuts
  • 60 g powdered sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar
  • pinch of salt

For coating

  • powdered sugar

Filling (optional)

  • 150 g ground walnuts
  • 80 g sugar
  • a little milk

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, butter, ground walnuts, powdered sugar, egg yolk, vanilla sugar, and salt.
  2. Knead into a smooth dough.
  3. Wrap and refrigerate 30–60 minutes.
  4. Roll small pieces of dough into logs and shape into small crescents.
  5. If using filling, flatten dough, add walnut mixture, and roll into crescent shape.
  6. Place on baking tray with baking paper.
  7. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden.
  8. While still warm, roll cookies in powdered sugar.
