👩🍳 Instructions:
- Make the Dough:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking powder. Add the cold butter and cut it into the flour with your fingers or a pastry cutter until crumbly. - Mix Wet Ingredients:
Add the egg yolk and sour cream. Mix until a soft dough forms. If too dry, add a tablespoon of milk. Fold in shredded cheese. - Chill the Dough:
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (can be chilled overnight). - Preheat & Roll:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll the dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch (5 mm) thick. - Cut the Sticks:
Use a knife or pizza cutter to slice dough into sticks about 3–4 inches long and ½ inch wide. - Prepare for Baking:
Place sticks on a parchment-lined baking tray. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle generously with grated cheese. - Bake:
Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden and puffed.
🧄 Optional Add-ins:
- A pinch of paprika or garlic powder in the dough
- Caraway seeds or sesame seeds on top for a traditional Hungarian flair
These cheesy sticks are best enjoyed warm but can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
