Szilvásgombóc – Hungarian Plum Dumplings 🇭🇺


Instructions

  1. Cook the potatoes
    Boil the potatoes until tender, then peel and mash them while still warm.
  2. Make the dough
    Mix mashed potatoes with flour, egg, and a pinch of salt. Knead into a smooth, soft dough.
  3. Prepare the plums
    If desired, fill the cavity of each plum with a teaspoon of sugar.
  4. Form the dumplings
    Take a portion of dough, flatten it in your hand, place a plum inside, and wrap the dough around it. Seal tightly.
  5. Boil the dumplings
    Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop the dumplings in, simmer gently for 8–10 minutes, until they float.
  6. Prepare the topping
    Toast the breadcrumbs in butter until golden.
  7. Serve
    Roll the cooked dumplings in the buttery breadcrumbs and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar if you like. Serve warm.
