🍯 Sweet Yeast Dumplings (Aranygaluska)

Ingredients (Dough)

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 250 ml warm milk
  • 25 g fresh yeast (or 7 g dry yeast)
  • 60 g sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 80 g melted butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar (optional)

Walnut Coating

  • 150 g ground walnuts
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)

For Dipping & Serving

  • 100 g melted butter
  • Vanilla custard (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 tsp sugar. Let it foam (10 min).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, egg yolks, yeast mixture, and melted butter.
  3. Knead until soft and smooth. Cover and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
  4. Mix ground walnuts with sugar (and cinnamon if using).
  5. Tear off walnut-size pieces of dough.
  6. Dip each piece in melted butter, then roll in walnut sugar.
  7. Place loosely in a buttered baking dish.
  8. Cover and let rise again 20 minutes.
  9. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes, until golden.

Serve warm with vanilla custard 🤍
