This is true Southern comfort food — seasoned just right, fried to golden perfection, and perfect with coleslaw, hush puppies, or a side of creamy grits.
🍴 Ingredients
For the Fish:
- 4 catfish fillets (fresh or thawed, about 6–8 oz each)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp hot sauce (optional, but adds that Southern kick!)
- 1 ½ cups cornmeal (yellow or white, your choice)
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for spice)
For Frying:
- Vegetable oil or peanut oil, for frying (enough to cover bottom of skillet about ½ inch deep)
