Rakott Teszta (Hungarian Baked Dessert Noodles)🇭🇺

Instructions:

  1. Cook the noodles:
Boil the noodles in salted water until just tender (al dente). Drain well and toss with 1 tbsp melted butter. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the sweet cheese mixture:
In a bowl, combine cottage cheese, sour cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  3. Combine:
Gently fold the cooked noodles into the cheese mixture until everything is well coated.
  4. Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
    • Grease a medium-sized baking dish (around 9×9 inches).
    • Pour in the noodle mixture and spread evenly.
    • Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden and slightly crisp around the edges.
  5. Serve:
Let it cool slightly before slicing.
Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm or chilled — both ways are delicious!

🍋 Optional additions:

  • Handful of raisins soaked in rum or vanilla extract
  • A light drizzle of fruit jam (apricot or cherry) on top before serving
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon sugar for aroma

It’s a nostalgic Hungarian comfort food that’s often served after Sunday lunch or as a sweet dinner dish. 🥰

Would you like me to share the savory version of Rakott Tészta too (with cheese, bacon, and sour cream)?
