🇭🇺 Prekmurska Gibanica (Slovenian/Hungarian Layered Pastry)
A luxurious multi-layered dessert filled with poppy seeds, walnuts, apples, and sweet cottage cheese.
Ingredients
For the Layers
- 10–12 sheets phyllo pastry (store-bought is fine)
Poppy Seed Filling
- 200 g ground poppy seeds
- 100 g sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- Zest of ½ lemon
- 100 ml warm milk
Walnut Filling
- 200 g ground walnuts
- 80–100 g sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Apple Filling
- 3–4 medium apples, grated
- 2 tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Cottage Cheese Filling
- 400 g cottage cheese (or ricotta)
- 2 eggs
- 100 g sour cream
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
Cream Mixture (for brushing layers)
- 200 ml sour cream
- 100 ml milk
- 1 egg
Butter
- 120–150 g melted butter (for brushing phyllo)
