Old-school spaghetti*

🍳 Instructions

  1. Cook the spaghetti:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti noodles and cook according to package directions until al dente.
    Drain and set aside.
  2. Make the sauce:
In a large skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft and translucent.
Stir in garlic and cook 1 minute more.
Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add the tomato base:
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Mix well.
Season with sugar, salt, pepper, oregano, basil, and Italian seasoning. Add bay leaf if using.
Simmer on low heat for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavorful.
  4. Combine:
Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss until evenly coated. Let it sit for a few minutes so the pasta soaks up the flavor.
  5. Serve:
Plate your spaghetti, sprinkle with grated Parmesan, and top with fresh parsley or basil.
Serve with garlic bread and a crisp salad for a perfect old-school meal!

❤️ Tips:

  • For a deeper flavor, add a splash of red wine or Worcestershire sauce to the simmering sauce.
