Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Nut Filling:

  • 2 cups finely ground walnuts
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Brushing:

  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp milk

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla. Mix and knead until smooth and elastic (about 8–10 minutes).
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours until doubled.

Filling:
5. In a saucepan, combine walnuts, sugar, milk, and butter. Cook over medium heat until thickened (3–5 minutes). Stir in vanilla. Cool completely.

  1. Divide dough in half. Roll each into a rectangle (about ¼-inch thick).
  2. Spread half of the filling evenly over each piece.
  3. Roll up tightly jelly-roll style and place seam-side down on a lined baking sheet.
  4. Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes.
  5. Brush with egg wash.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool completely before slicing.
