📝 Ingredients

Meatloaf

  • 1 kg (2 lb) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika

Mashed Potatoes

  • 1 kg (2 lb) potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ½ cup milk or cream
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • Salt to taste

Gravy

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • Salt & pepper to taste

  1. Prepare the meatloaf
    Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F.
    In a bowl, mix all meatloaf ingredients until just combined.
    Press evenly into a greased baking dish.
  2. Bake
    Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, until cooked through.
  3. Make the mashed potatoes
    Boil potatoes until tender.
    Drain, mash with butter, milk, and salt until creamy.
  4. Top the meatloaf
    Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the cooked meatloaf.
    Return to oven for 10–15 minutes until lightly golden.
  5. Prepare the gravy
    Melt butter in a pan, stir in flour for 1 minute.
    Slowly whisk in beef broth.
    Simmer until thickened. Season to taste.
  6. Serve
    Slice generously and pour warm gravy over the top.
