Lekváros Papucs Recipe

Ingredients

  • 500 g (4 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 250 g (1 cup) butter (cold, cubed)
  • 200 g (¾ cup) sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Thick plum jam (traditional – “szilvalekvár”)
  • 1 egg (for brushing)

Instructions

1️⃣ Mix flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder.

2️⃣ Rub in cold butter until crumbly.

3️⃣ Add egg and sour cream. Knead into smooth dough.

4️⃣ Wrap and chill 30–60 minutes.

5️⃣ Roll dough to about 3–4 mm thickness.

6️⃣ Cut into squares.

7️⃣ Place 1 teaspoon thick jam in the center.

8️⃣ Fold two opposite corners toward center (or shape into triangles).

9️⃣ Brush with beaten egg.

🔟 Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 18–22 minutes until golden.
