Lángos (Hungarian Fried Bread)


👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add yeast mixture and oil.
  4. Knead until smooth and soft (about 8–10 minutes).
  5. Cover and let rise for 1 hour, until doubled in size.

2. Shape the Lángos

  1. Divide dough into equal portions.
  2. Shape each into a ball, then flatten into discs (about 1 cm thick).
  3. Stretch slightly in the center to create the traditional shape.

3. Fry

  1. Heat oil in a deep pan.
  2. Fry each piece for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  3. Remove and drain on paper towels.

4. Prepare Garlic Topping

  1. Mix crushed garlic with water.
  2. Brush over hot lángos.

5. Serve

  • Spread with sour cream and sprinkle with grated cheese.
