👩🍳 Instructions:
- Make the Dough:
In a large bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add flour, the rest of the sugar, softened butter, egg, and salt. Knead until smooth (about 8–10 minutes).
Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled. - Roll & Fill:
Roll the dough into a large rectangle (about ¼ inch thick).
Brush with melted butter and evenly sprinkle the cocoa-sugar mixture over the top. - Shape the Rolls:
Roll the dough tightly from the longer side, forming a log. Slice into 1-inch pieces. - Second Rise:
Place the rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Let them rise for another 20–30 minutes. - Bake:
Brush with egg wash and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown. - Optional Finish:
Some brush them with a little milk or sugar syrup right out of the oven to keep them soft and shiny.
☕ Serve:
Best enjoyed warm with a cup of tea or coffee — pure childhood nostalgia for many Hungarians!
