
Instructions:
- Prepare the cake batter:
- Beat egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form.
- In another bowl, whisk egg yolks with sugar until pale and fluffy.
- Add vanilla, then gently fold in ground walnuts, flour, and baking powder.
- Carefully fold in the egg whites to keep the batter light.
- Bake:
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Pour batter into a greased 22 cm (9-inch) cake pan.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden and set.
- Let cool completely, then slice horizontally into 2–3 layers.
- Prepare the cream:
- Beat butter and powdered sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Add egg yolks and vanilla, mix well.
- Stir in ground walnuts until creamy.
- Assemble the torte:
- Spread cream between each cake layer.
- Cover the top and sides with remaining cream.
- Decorate:
- Garnish with walnuts, chocolate shavings, or a light dusting of powdered sugar.
