Hungarian Walnut Crescent Cookies (Diós Kifli)

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 200 g butter, cold and cubed
  • 80 g powdered sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream or milk
  • Pinch of salt

For the filling:

  • 200 g ground walnuts
  • 80 g sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For coating:

  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, powdered sugar, salt, and butter until crumbly.
  2. Add egg yolks and sour cream, knead into a soft dough.
  3. Wrap dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. Mix ground walnuts, sugar, milk, and vanilla to make the filling.
  5. Roll dough thin and cut into small triangles.
  6. Place a small amount of walnut filling on each piece.
  7. Roll into crescent shapes.
  8. Bake at 180°C / 350°F for 15–18 minutes until lightly golden.
  9. Let cool slightly, then coat generously with powdered sugar.
  10. Allow to cool completely before serving
