Hungarian Vanilla Crescent Cookies (Vaníliás Kifli)

Ingredients

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 200 g cold butter, cubed
  • 100 g ground walnuts or almonds
  • 80 g powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For coating:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Vanilla sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 170°C / 340°F.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, ground nuts, powdered sugar, and salt.
  3. Add cold butter and vanilla, then knead quickly until a soft dough forms.
  4. Shape small portions into crescent shapes.
  5. Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden (do not overbake).
  7. While still warm, coat generously with powdered sugar (and vanilla sugar if using).
  8. Let cool completely before serving.
