This hearty dish combines sauerkraut, pork, and paprika into a comforting goulash-stew — it’s sometimes called a “treasure” because it unites flavors from Hungarian and Transylvanian traditions.


🥘 Ingredients (6 servings)

  • 2 lbs (900 g) pork (shoulder or leg), cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 2 tbsp lard or sunflower oil
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 cups sauerkraut, rinsed and drained (adjust sourness to taste)
  • 1 ½ cups chicken or pork broth (or water)
  • 1 cup sour cream (tejföl)
