🍪 Hungarian Snow Crescents (Hókifli)
🛒 Ingredients
- 250 g (1 cup + 2 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
- 100 g (½ cup) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (or vanilla sugar)
- 300 g (2½ cups) all-purpose flour
- 100 g (1 cup) finely ground walnuts
- Pinch of salt
For coating
- Powdered sugar (generous amount)
- Optional: vanilla sugar mixed with powdered sugar
👩🍳 Instructions
- Make the dough
Cream butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
Add vanilla.
Mix in flour, ground walnuts, and salt.
Knead gently just until dough comes together. - Chill
Wrap dough and refrigerate 30–45 minutes. - Shape crescents
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
Take small pieces of dough, roll into logs, and bend into crescent shapes. - Bake
Place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake 10–12 minutes.
Cookies should stay pale—only bottoms lightly golden. - Coat in sugar
While still warm, gently roll cookies in powdered sugar.
Let cool completely, then dust again.
