
Hungarian Shortbread – Omlós Teasütemény
Ingredients
- 250 g (2 cups) all-purpose flour
- 200 g (¾ cup + 2 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
- 100 g (½ cup) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar or vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Optional for finishing: powdered sugar, melted chocolate, or jam
Instructions
- Cream butter & sugar
Beat the softened butter with powdered sugar and vanilla until light and creamy. - Add dry ingredients
Add flour and salt. Mix just until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix. - Shape
Form small balls, logs, or shapes using a cookie press.
Place on a parchment-lined baking tray. - Bake
Bake at 170°C / 340°F for 12–15 minutes, until the bottoms are lightly golden.
Keep the tops pale for a tender texture. - Cool & finish
Cool completely, then dust with powdered sugar or decorate as desired.
Tips
- Chill dough briefly if too soft.
- Cookies taste even better the next day.
- Perfect with tea or coffee.
