Hungarian Pork Stew (Pörkölt)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg pork (cut into cubes)
  • 2 onions (chopped)
  • 3 tbsp oil or lard
  • 2 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 pepper
  • salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 200–300 ml water

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pot and sauté chopped onions until soft.
  2. Remove from heat, add paprika and mix.
  3. Add pork cubes and stir well.
  4. Add garlic, tomato, pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Pour in water and cover.
  6. Simmer on low heat 60–90 minutes until meat is tender and sauce thickens.

Serve with bread, dumplings, or pasta.
